STANDING COMMITTEES MANDATED BY BYLAWS

Executive Committee Fredric T. Perlman, PhD, FIPA (chair)

The Executive Committee, in accordance with its mandate in the CIPS bylaws, consists of the President, the Secretary, and the Past President or the President Elect and other CIPS members appointed by the President. The Executive Committee is responsible for carrying out the policies of the Board and the business of the corporation between meetings of the Board.

The Nominating Committee, in accordance with its mandate in the CIPS bylaws, is responsible for conducting the nomination and the election of the President and the Secretary by the national membership. The Nominating Committee is chaired by a member of a CIPS component society who is appointed by the President with the approval of the Board. Members of the Nominating Committee are appointed by the Chair.

The Appointments Committee is responsible for (a) posting open positions within CIPS, including committees as well as other positions within the organization, and (b) recommending specific individuals to the Board of Directors for appointment. In some instances, the Appointments Committee develops eligibility criteria for appointment to specific positions, which are subject to the approval of the Board of Directors.
Committee on Bylaws and Procedures Antonia Bercovici, MD, FIPA (chair)

The Committee on Bylaws and Procedures is responsible for (a) recommending and drafting amendments to the By-Laws, (b) compiling and maintaining the Procedural Code for various CIPS activities, and (c) disseminating this information to the Board and the membership. The Committee also advises the Officers and Board with respect to procedural matters related to meetings and actions taken by the Officers and Board.

The Committee on Direct Membership, chaired by the senior representative of the Direct Members Society on the CIPS Board of Directors, is responsible for (a) providing information about CIPS to potential direct dembers, (b) recruiting Direct members, (c) serving as liason between the CIPS and prospective members considering membership in CIPS.

The CIPS ENewsletter Committee is responsible for production and ongoing develoment of the CIPS ENewsletter, and is chaired by the Editor of the ENewsletter.

The Finance Committee is an advisory committee responsible for providing financial advise and recommendations to the Board of Directors and committees. The committee is chaired by the Treasurer of CIPS. The membership of the committee includes treasurers of component societies or their representatives, as well as other individuals appointed by the CIPS Treasurer.

The Committee on Fund Raising is responsible for (a) formulating plans for fund raising activities, (b) recommending fund raising plans to the Board of Directors, and (c) implementing fund raising activities in accordance with the directives of the Board of Directors.
Committee on Honorary Members Diane Garcia, PhD, FIPA (chair)

This committee is responsible for the administration of CIPS policies with regard to honorary membership, including (a) making recommendations to the Board of Directors with regard to the election of individuals as honorary members, and, (b) inviting individuals approved by the board to become honorary members and providing those individuals with information about CIPS, (c) acting as liason between those individuals and CIPS.

The Committee on Intramural Education and Research is responsible for development and administrations of intersociety study groups, research projects, continuing education courses, and distance learning programs for CIPS members.

The Committee on New Groups is a standing committee of CIPS formed to assist psychoanalytic groups in the U.S. who are interested in pursuing membership in the IPA. The committee is responsible for (a) conducting outreach to inform interested groups about CIPS, (b) providing information to such groups about IPA standards and requirements, (c) providing liaison between such groups and other parties involved in the IPA application and evaluation process, and (d) conducting site visits to assist prospective IPA groups to address issues pertinent to IPA application and evaluation..

The Committee on Publications is responsible for overseeing the development and coordination of all CIPS publications. The membership of this committee includes the chairs and editors of each publication committee, including the Enewsletter Committee, the Committee on Website Development, the Select Committee on the Oral History Film Archive, and other individuals appointed by the chair. The committee is also responsible for developing editorial policies for all CIPS publications.

The Public Policy Committee, formed in the summer of 2003, is a national committee branches on both the East and West coasts. The committee's charge is to address challenges to the profession posed by adverse legislation and social policies inimical to the interests of psychoanalysis.
Public Policy/East Coast Subcommittee Fredric T. Perlman, PhD, FIPA (chair)

This subcommittee, originally formed to address state licensing issues in New York, is responsible for monitoring and addressing public policy issues of concern to psychoanalysts arising from state legislation and regulatory policies in East coast states. The East Coast Subcommittee spearheaded lobbying efforts to improve state licensing regulations for psychoanalysis, and participated with IPTAR in forming the New York State Psychoanalytic Confederation (NYSPAC), the first state psychoanalytic association in the United States.
Public Policy/West Coast Subcommittee Beth Kalish Weiss, PhD, FIPA (chair)

This subcommittee, originally formed to address potential threats to psychoanalysis in California, is responsible for monitoring and addressing public policy issues of concern to psychoanalysts arising from state legislation and regulatory policies in West coast states. The West Coast Subcommittee drafted model legislation for the licensing of psychoanalysts, and spearheaded efforts to form the California Psychoanalytic Confederation (CAPSAC), the second state psychoanalytic association in the United States.
Public Policy/Subcommittee on Professional Credentialing Fredric T. Perlman, PhD, FIPA (chair)

The task of this subcommittee is to develop and promote workable proposals for development of a professional credentialing system to include credentialing of psychoanalytic training programs and practitioners in accordance with responsible standards. Three types of credentialing are to be considered: (a) accreditation of psychoanalytic training institutes, (b) certification of psychoanalysts, (c) continued development of model licensing legislation.
Public Policy/Subcommittee on Patient Privacy Rights Jay Frankel, PhD, FIPA (chair)

This subcommittee has been formed to a) to prepare a concise summary of the nature and source of current threats to patient privacy rights, and b) to prepare additional materials that will convey the character and implications of such threats to our profession and to the public, and c) to make recommendations to the Public Policy Committee and the CIPS board with regard to further action.

This ad-hoc committee is charged with developing informational material, both for the public and for ourselves, and to assemble private archival materials pertaining to CIPS history.
Select Committee on Clinical Conference Randi Wirth, PhD, FIPA (chair)

The Clinical Conference Committee is an ad-hoc committee, formed every two years, to plan, administer, and host the Bi-Annual CIPS Clinical Conference.
Select Committee on Logo Development Peter Wolson, PhD, FIPA (chair)

This ad-hoc committee is charged with developing an official logo for CIPS. The committee is working with a graphic artist to hone in on a design.
Select Committee on Oral History Film Archive Isaac Tylim, PhD, FIPA (chair)

This committee is responsible for (a) planning and developing an oral history film archive and (b) developing and executing plans to use selected contents of this film archive to produce a documentary film about CIPS and its history.
