How Does Analysis Cure: In Conversation with Fred Busch, Elias M. da Rocha Barros and Lesley Caldwell

Based on the recent contribution of Fred Busch, How Does Analysis Cure? Essays on a Psychoanalytic Method, Psychoanalytic Organizations and Psychoanalysts, this panel will explore three elements of the curative process: representations, the ethics of countertransference, and the dynamics of gossip.

First, Dr. Busch will discuss his basic premise that building representations is the hallmark of helping patients change from the inevitability of action to self reflection and the capacity to consider alternatives.*
*Chapter 1

Elias M. da Rocha Barros will examine the analyst’s ethical responsibility for the significance of his/her own role in understanding co-constructed countertransference.*
*Chapter 5

Lesley Caldwell will consider Dr. Busch’s proposal that the driving force underlying gossip involves a seductive invitation to the primal scene.*
*Chapter 13

Drew Tillotson will serve as interlocutor and moderator for the panel.
