Application for Board Certification

It is easy to apply for Board Certification in Psychoanalysis through our online certification program on the CIPS website (www.cipsusa.org). If you have any questions about the application process, please contact the Board Certification Administrator, Diana Daimwood, at admin@cipsusa.org.

Please note: A non-refundable $200 application fee is due at the time of submission. Your application will not be reviewed until payment is successfully processed.

Experience Overview

The Certification application requires two letters of reference from colleagues.

To the Applicant:

Please ask two experienced psychoanalysts who know your work to complete the questionnaire and write a letter of reference. These may be colleagues, supervisors, or consultants from any IPA institute, including APsA. However, each individual submitting the documents on your behalf must have at least five years of postgraduate psychoanalytic experience and be board certified in psychoanalysis or eligible for board certification. You may meet with one or both colleagues to discuss your work and the letters of reference.

Instructions for the Analyst providing a reference:

A colleague has requested that you provide a letter of reference in support of their application for CIPS Board Certification in Psychoanalysis. CIPS requires you to complete a short 27-item questionnaire and prepare a separate letter of reference. Once you have completed both documents, please upload them to the CIPS website using the Letters of Reference Submission Form link provided by the applicant.

Important: CIPS does not accept paper submissions or emailed letters. All reference letters must be submitted exclusively through the upload link above. Letters submitted through this form are securely stored in our database and received directly by the CIPS Administrator.
